Christie’s Place-A Woman’s Voice Conference - March 14, 2011

On March 12, 2011 Christie’s Place in San Diego, California hosted a conference in honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The Laurel Foundation helped with this event by providing an all day camp program for the children attending the conference. Our own Cecilia Melgares (Outreach Co-ordinator) attended this event. Here is her report.

This past weekend, I attended Christie’s Place’s annual Woman’s Voice Conference in honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The Laurel Foundation hosted a program for the kids, led by our one and only Mowgli and his fearless team of volunteers, Froggy, Sol, Ol
é, Coco, and Jazz.

I had an amazing time bonding with the families, and learning about their experience with our organization. A mother of a former camper explained to me that after her son came back from camp his outlook on life had changed; he was more enthusiastic and accepting of himself. She said, “Camp Laurel changed my son’s life.” I was so INSPIRED! Thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, and donors who make Camp Laurel possible! It truly changes lives!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for helping to make this event a success. And to Christie’s Place and their continued effort to empower families affected by HIV/AIDS!
